This won't be the first time that it has happened, but Tesla is once again in the middle of racism hellfire allegations. According to a federal lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Tesla subjected its Black employees to "widespread and ongoing racial harassment."
Here are some notable bits from the press statement:
1. Black employees at Tesla’s Fremont, California manufacturing facilities have routinely endured racial abuse, pervasive stereotyping, and hostility.
2. Black employees were subjected to "epithets such as variations of the N-word, “monkey,” “boy,” and “black b*tch.”
3. Slurs were used casually and openly in high-traffic areas and at worker hubs.
4. Black employees regularly encountered graffiti, including variations of the N-word, swastikas, threats, and nooses, on desks and other equipment, in bathroom stalls, within elevators, and even on new vehicles rolling off the production line.
5. Citing the lawsuit, a CNN report quotes a Black Tesla worker saying that “people were using the N-Word all the time, especially men, and particularly White men.”
In 2023, Tesla was ordered to pay north of $3 million to an employee who accused the company of allowing racist harassment against them. So far, Elon Musk, the Lord of Tesla, has yet to issue a statement, nor has his EV brand challenged the lawsuit's claims publicly.
