HMD, from Finland, just introduced their latest phone. The Skyline. It looks like the Lumia 920, the Windows Phone flagship from a glorious past. Or the Nokia N9, if you're an OG and know your smartphone industry shizz.
In 2024, we get a never-seen-before Pink. And it comes in black. Batman approved! And unlike their previous Androids, this one from HMD isn’t a half-assed job. It’s got the looks to match some pretty powerful specs. And here’s the unexpected good part.
It also makes the repairs easy. Lord, I am swooning. Here’s the news straight from the brand:
“It’s got Gen2 repairability, meaning we took something that was easy and made it even easier. Pop off the back cover and you’re in. Then removing the screws and replacing the screen in a breeze.”
Alright. Let’s talk business aka the stuff inside. You get a 6.55-inch FHD (pOLED, 144Hz refresh rate) screen with Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The battery capacity is 4,600 mAh and supports 33W charging. Oh, 15W wireless charging, too.
It draws power from Qualcomm’s mid-tier Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC, paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage.
There’s a microSD card slot, too. SCREAMER!
The HMD Skyline runs Android 14 out of the box, but will only get two major OS updates. Yikes. Yikes. Yikes. The camera hardware is what you’d have expected from a top-tier Lumia back in the good’ ol’ days!
Skyline's main snapper is a 108-megapixel sensor. Zoom duties are handled by a 50-megapixel telephoto lens and while ultrawide capture is the responsibility of a 13-megapixel sensor.
For selfies, there’s a 50-megapixel sensor. Fitting for a generation obsessed with selfies (only to ruin it with 69GB worth of filters). It costs €499/$499/£399. That's not a bad price, but nowhere near what the Chinese brands will serve you on the hardware platter for an attractive ask.
Here's the bad part. We don't know how much it's gonna cost in India, assuming it is launched here. We’ll keep you updated, though. Pinky promise.
